Planned route

Today was all about climbing – almost 7600 feet of climbing! From the map it looks like 2 big climbs and dink. Well, it was two huge climbs and everywhere else it was major rolling hills – I mean gear down to lowest and spin your brains out on the rollers ups. This just tears my legs up. Not going to lie, this was rough and a grind.

Ok the big climbs – first was up a canyon. Tough grades to 10% and with false tops. So it felt like you were at the top but was another grade to go up. This was about 16 mile climb up for 2000 ft. Then big rolling hills, then a huge descent, speeds around 40 (I maxed out at 41😳 fun but frightening with thermal wind gusts). Then a second climb of around 2300 feet in 6 miles. Not going to rant or scream, but man that was a challenge!!! Then huge rolling hills for 20 miles into Condon that was rest of day climbing – rolling hills of 3000 feet!!! I survived but I also suffered!!!

It’s Sunday, so very quiet. One of the guys said this the most desolate town I’ve ever seen. If the sidewalks could fold up, this would be the place. We are staying at the historic Condon hotel. Everything here appears as it did in the 50’s – very quant. But the dinner was fantastic. Plank salmon, roast beef, mixed veg, 3 salad choices, fried potatoes – real prize was American berry and rhubarb cobbler with perfect whipped cream. Ya- your Mom/Grandma home cooking taken up a couple of notches. Beyond yum (that might be the ride talking)!!!

On our way to Hermiston next!!! Rollout at about 7:30 a.m.

Who would have thought 3 Nobels from Condon
