You cannot believe how good a rest day feels. No schedule, no stress, no packing up – truly bliss!!! So what do we do – rent a car and go see the sights. When I say see, we are doing a walk about for a few good photos and we be gone.

Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse sculptures are within 45 mins. The car we get is monster Dodge Ram with a hemi with Idaho plates – can you say Heee – HAWWW!!! Me driving, Andrew riding shotgun and navigating with Ted, Mike and young Jon in the back seat providing commentary. This rig could fit 8 guys comfortably.

Very interesting start to finish about the sculptures and how they came or are coming to be. Both were meant to be tourist attractions, both initially funded by private donations, both artistic content not by a commission but one person, both amazing, massive works of art with engineering marvels. We are in awe of the scale, the know how, the methods and tenacity to see a project get to done – Rushmore took 14 years; Crazy Horse started in 1948 and still is not complete.

Then the meaning, the symbolism on 9/11 – makes you feel so grateful for what you have and what you can do! Very emotional!!!

Back to the grind tomorrow – Rapid City to Kadoka (no idea where that is but it’s 113 miles away)

End a day with good dinner and a night cap

Great pasta night with a Chianti
Whiskey with a cube please – Young Jon solving problems of the world
