- Weather – ok, it was only a 15% chance of rain and it poured all day. I had to switch out raincoats at lunch. Plus temps dropped onto the 50’s during ride! Which made wind chill about 45 to 48 degrees – it felt like a chill was around you.

Today was harsh!!! Long ride, 9 climbs and rain coming down in squalls. Soaked by first rest stop, switched out raincoats at lunch and had to drain my shoes after the ride. It was kind of like a gully washer but all day!
With 9 climbs around different lakes and cities, it was sorta pretty but the rain didn’t really allow much stoppage time for pics. Yes, I know that is lame but you were not there shivering on the bike on every decent. We went thru some cute towns – Watkins Glen, Ithica, (home of Cornell), Cortland (which the entire city is under road construction) to get to Cazenovia.
The hotel is a private inn. It seems fancy but I destroyed the shower with my gritty clothes (actually took shower with clothes on and then peeled each layer away – I pity the person who is cleaning up after the group). We had a group meal that took over two hours – the guys were coming unglued as they wanted to be in bed. It was tasty (lobster pasta with spicy marinara sauce and mixed berry pie ala mode plus clam chowder and goat cheese salad – I’m a growing boy!)
I found out something interesting about our Garmin gps devices – they are very inaccurate for elevation! Well that was bum news, as now I need to go back to all my rides to confirm accuracy. Ya, it is a first world problem but hey this is bragging rights! So some stuff may change with some good data rather than Garmin bogus inputs. Mileage is accurate – phew!!!
We are now down to 5 ride days. Kinda crazy, it is just about surviving to the finish. Still tough days ahead. Tomorrow is onward to Piseco NY
